Project Spring Clean
As happens every time I go into a depressive or mixed episode, I let things go. What has really been let go this time, as most times, has been the cleanliness of my living area. I need to get all three of my rooms cleaned up so I can at least walk around without stepping on random stuff and just not be ashamed to look around. I’m also sick at looking at all those countless empty boxes piled up on the side of my room. Why don’t I get rid of each box when I receive each box via the mail? Why do I let them pile up like that until it’s too overwhelming to do anything about it?!? Well, it’s now Spring and Spring is the time for cleaning, or so I’ve heard, so that’s what I’m going to do. It’s going to take a lot of work but it has to be done and the sooner the better. I would share some before photos but I’m too ashamed of how bad my rooms have gotten. Just think “Hoarders Lite” and you might get an idea. I’m not a hoarder as I want all this stuff gone, I just let things build up for too long.
The first part of this massive project will be cleaning my office room. I’ve got about 40% of this done as of right now thanks to some boredom driven cleaning from the past few days. The hardest part was clearing the aforementioned mountain of empty boxes. I took my small yet sharp boxcutter and cut up each box so that it was flat and manageable. I then threw all the flattened boxes into a huge can for recycling or whatever the future has in store for them (not a lot of options out in the middle of nowhere). It took me the better part of two and a half hours to get rid of all the boxes. After that, I got the very last of the soda cans out of my office. I say very last because I have stopped drinking soda for the most part except on rare occasions (and when I do it’s not in a can). I also pitched my old broken office chair that has been sitting in here for who knows how long for who knows what reason other than to have miscellaneous crap piled on top of it. I’ll take it down to the curb and let whoever wants it have at it. I just have a few more little things to pick up like some tech boxes that I actually want to keep then I can get to using the vacuum. Oh, I also need to clean my computer desk! I should do that before I vacuum. Vacuuming will be the last thing I do in each room.
Once the cleaning is done, I’ll have some improvements and decorating to do in my office. I purchased some posters of my artworks last summer to hang up but never got around to actually hanging them up. I found them while I was cutting up boxes and right now am trying to flatten them out so they will be ready for hanging on the wall later. I already know where I want to put them! I also need to put together a small bookshelf I purchased last yet but never did anything with besides stack the box in my office. I need a new doorstop because somehow the old one broke. I also need to work on my Project Pop Renewal all of which takes place in my office. Oh, and I also found curtain rods and a set of curtains while I was cleaning so I guess I should install and hang that stuff up too once I get the chance.
Part 2 will be the bathroom. It isn’t too bad actually. I just need to clean off the counter which is cluttered with who knows what. I think there are even a few more boxes in the floor in there for some reason. I’ll clean off the counter and then take care of the boxes. Finally, vacuum that floor too and I’ll be all done in there. All the framed pictures I had on the walls in there fell down late last year due to an annoying little thing called gravity and the wrong nails for the job. Maybe I can find a way to put them back up again so that they will actually stay up?
Part 3 will be the grand finale, cleaning the bedroom. The floor is a mess which needs to be cleared and vacuumed badly. There are some boxes in there though not nearly as many as were in my office. I also need to clear off and clean all of the furniture tops (dresser, nightstand, etc.) and reorganize things like my movie collection (DVDs and blu-rays). I have my previously used wooden desk (in dismantled pieces) in my bedroom just taking up space for no good reason. I need to figure out what to do with it and get it out of there. Also needing to get out of there is my old moon chair which my little dogs tore up by using it as a trampoline. My closet needs to be cleaned out too but I think I’ll save that for another project. For this project, I’ll just fix the broken doors and be done with it so that the room “appears” clean and fixed. The last thing I’ll do once again, is vacuum the floor to perfection.
I have a few improvements to make in that room too. I have some old posters I want to hang up on these walls that I moved out of my office a while back. I also finally found a frame for an art print I bought at a comic con back in 2015 so I will now be able to hang that up too. Once I get the pieces of my old wooden desk out of here, I’d like to put a small desk in that corner of the room. I will either move an older desk of mine from elsewhere in the house in here or, if I find one super cheap and cute, purchase a new one. I’ll more than likely do the former though since money is so tight right now. I need to get a curtain rod and curtains for this room too but I’ll see how hard it is to install them in the other room first before I try it in this room. Or did I originally buy that stuff for this room?? I don’t remember!
Once I get everything finished, I’ll post a few “beauty shots” in a part 2 of this post. I do have a couple “before” photos that I might share but I haven’t decided yet. One is of the mountain of boxes. I’ll probably share that one at least. I’ll decide about that later when I publish the next post. Until then, I have a lot of cleaning to do. For now, it’s almost midnight so I need to get some sleep so I’ll be ready to get down to cleaning starting tomorrow morning.
